The Unofficial Brooklyn Hipster Mini-Triathlon

The Unofficial Brooklyn Hipster Mini Triathlon was conceived of when I was biking from my apartment in Brooklyn Heights to the city pool in Red Hook (if you don’t know about NYC’s free outdoor summer pools, you are missing out on one of the more charming services the city has to offer). The distance was about 2.2 miles, which was close to the 5k needed for a mini-tri.

One of the more beautiful events I have ever curated was born.

I have managed to preserve the original single-serving-site for it! (some of which I will replicate here)

2014

The inaugural run was supported by my parents in a rented van. The “race” kicked off at the Red Hook Pool, where we were the first people in line at 945am. We descended on the pool like a swarm of locusts, lane splitting in every lane, and within fifteen minutes we were gone, on our bikes. A ~7 mile ride down to Dyker Heights brought us to the Fort Hamilton Athletic Field for a 5km run, followed by an (entirely optional) beer shotgunning team building activity in broad daylight. Another ~7 mile ride completed the tri, ending at L&B Spumoni gardens, where much pizza and ice cream was consumed.
